Supporting Patients With Hearing Loss During the COVID-19 Pandemic
I was excited to get this opportunity to write about some of the challenges hard-of-hearing patients have been facing during the pandemic. Masks make it even harder to hear. (Who would have thought?) This was my first feature piece writing in the ENT space. It is always a bit of a challenge getting oriented in a new subspecialty, but that is also part of the fun of it. This was written for ENT professionals, but it has some broad applications.
Understanding COVID-19 Vaccine Types
I wrote this article on types of COVID-19 vaccines a couple of weeks back. The technologies used in the successful Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines are new compared to other approaches, but scientists have been developing mRNA-based vaccines for several years now. Writing this article helped me understand the different approaches to vaccine development in terms of strengths and drawbacks. We never would have had a vaccine so quickly without utilizing these new techniques, so I’m glad people had been working on them so steadfastly even before this epidemic.
I’ve updated the layout and look and feel of this site, and have added this blogging function, which I hope to update periodically. Hope you like it!
